Our Mission

The Agonafer Shiferaw Ethiopia Forward Foundation (ASEFF), pays tribute to Agonafer Shiferaw, a fervent champion for social justice and a living testament to the ethos of 

'I am my brother's (and sister's) keeper.' 

His enduring activism, advocating for the voiceless in Ethiopia and the San Francisco Bay Area, forms the bedrock of our mission. Embodying Agonafer’s values of security, advocacy, and access, we pledge to continue his crusade for social and economic equity and to stand up for those in need.

ASEFF's mission focuses on five key areas: emergency relief in war-torn regions, continuous food assistance, support for families and orphanages for long-term growth, leadership development, and fostering robust communities. Our aim is to offer aid that enables individuals and families to not only endure but flourish. 

We firmly believe that the potential leaders of tomorrow are nestled within these communities. By fulfilling fundamental needs and offering steadfast support, our vision is to empower these individuals to evolve into visionary, compassionate humanitarians who will champion their communities and steer Ethiopia toward a future of advancement. In this endeavor, ASEFF is committed to fostering a generation equipped to enact positive change, continuing Agonafer Shiferaw’s legacy of advocacy, generosity, compassion and unwavering commitment to social justice, both in Ethiopia and beyond.

  • Emergency Relief

    Ethiopia often faces formidable challenges due to natural disasters, conflict, and poverty. In response to these crises, emergency relief efforts become crucial lifelines for communities in distress. We recognize the pressing need to support our motherland during times of crisis, providing essential aid such as food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter to those affected. Together, through our dedicated team and strategic partnerships on the ground, we strive to reach the most vulnerable populations swiftly and effectively, offering hope and assistance in their darkest hours.

    In Ethiopia, access to sufficient and nutritious food is a pressing concern, particularly in regions affected by drought, conflict, and economic instability. Through targeted food assistance programs that distribute food aid to vulnerable communities, we aim to alleviate food insecurity, ensuring that families have the sustenance they need to thrive. Additionally (and equally important), our goal is to facilitate sustainable solutions that empower communities to become self-sufficient in the long term. We aspire to provide immediate relief and to promote food security for generations to come.

FOUNDED BY

THE AGONAFER SHIFERAW FAMILY

If you knew Agonafer you knew how much he cherished his family. He was a consummate family man
and deeply committed to his Ethiopian heritage. Agonafer actively contributed, spiritually and
financially, to his family in the United States and in Ethiopia. Although, no longer living in Ethiopia, Agonafer continued his advocacy with local
and national elected officials. Agonafer always felt that the strength and possibilities of Ethiopia
lay in the union of all Tribes and not in bitter division. Agonafer leaves a lifetime of social
justice as his legacy. The family plans to continue Agonafer's legacy and commitment to advocacy through the ASEF Foundation.
